Our beginning class this week at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford, MS. has been so much fun. I have three assistants who are making class go smoothly and 12 students who are doing great. We have learned to thread our machines, pivot, sew seams, sew on curves, made a bookmark, a pincushion and a zipper pouch. We will begin making our pillowcases tomorrow.

It is my privilege again to be able to teach sewing at John C. Campbell Folk School. Next week, I will teach adult students beginning sewing skills and techniques including becoming familiar with their machines, sewing basic seams, and how to layout, cut and sew a simple garment from a commercial pattern. The folk school is a non-competitive learning environment that fosters creativity, life-long learning and friendship in a picturesque setting. It indeed does change you. printmaking class 4

It seems it is a little early, but with the fact that summer is one of the busiest times for us at Art To Go LLC, it makes sense that we are getting started planning, scheduling and preparing for the 10 weeks of classes we will offer.

I am super excited about some of the fun themes we have planned this year including Flights of Fancy-We will make dragons, birds, flying insects, unicorns and all kinds of flying creatures, real and made-up.

I am also stoked about the adult classes I am teaching this summer. I often get asked if I would offer adult summer camps, and this summer we have two and they even offer CEU credit if you are a teacher and need some extra credits for certification.

We will expand our hours opening camp an hour earlier each morning and closing one hour later in the afternoons. We are also changing our offerings for children up to age 12, preteens, and adults so we can better provide for our community.  All camps below will take place at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford, MS. I am attaching photos of the little pinafore style dress I made for my grandbaby. She is 3 months old, and I used pattern, Butterick, B5625. I cut a newborn size and sewed it with 1/4 inch seam allowances, and she has plenty of room. She is about 12 pounds but the small would have swallowed her. Often the patterns run a little big for the little ones.

The bonnet was made from a bonnet I got at goodwill. I measured it and traced the bonnet on brown paper for the pieces. It has elastic in the back to make it snug. It was a newborn size and it fit her snugly so I added an inch to make it last the summer!

I am now showing some work at a great coffee shop in Memphis in the Cooper Young District, called Otherlands Coffee. It is a cool artistic venue with a super fun vibe. My work will be up for about six weeks. I am so excited and pumped about my work being there. Thank you Otherlands!
